The Ocean Hiker sailing course is an extended version of a Competent Crew Course. Our approach of teaching is based on our very own blue water sailing experience. The additional collection of skills are of importance to any crew on an ocean passage. We implemented the extra skills into the standard competent crew syllabus of the RYA or ISA. We are not only mentioning during the Ocean Hiker/ Competent Crew Course that there are marine VHF radios aboard any ocean going sailing yacht, we introduce at this level the basics how to work it and we are sure that any captain or skipper will appreciate this  in a precarious situation that an marine radio unlicensed competent crew member was able to set up a correct pan pan pan call. This does not mean that we depreciate any available licenses within the maritime world but we know that knowledge and skills are essential for survival. After extensive research we found that most sailing associations are not teaching at any sailing course level  the skill of splicing ropes? Well, when we go for a Charter Cruise here in the Gulf of Thailand we definitely prefer a crew with a broad maritime knowledge and a bag full of skills.

Of course nobody can become within a week a fully trained skipper ready to cross the seas but our goal is to create a truly useful crew with maximum practical training possible in our given time frame.

5 day Ocean Hiker Competent Crew Sailing Course Koh Tao
In our 5 day ocean hiker sailing course Koh Tao we will have daily practical sailing sessions aboard the sailing yacht Yun Khan just off the island Koh Tao. You will have to plan to be around for five to six hours a day. Academics will be incorporated in this session. The departure times can vary depending on weather conditions and training goals.

What will you get?

In the beginning of the sailing course Koh Tao we supply you with a competent crew sailing course book to study, a rope to train a few important knots and splicing. We can guarantee a build up of confidence at sea by being 5 days aboard the sailing yacht and collecting over the 5 day sailing course Koh Tao a minimum of 100 nautical Miles. Further you will take part in a night sail of minimum 4 hours. You will broaden your maritime knowledge throughout our 5 theory lessons. After completion you will receive a Ocean Hiker Competent Crew Card on which is as well stated what training you have done equivalent to the RYA Competent Crew Certificate .
