If you want to experience some of the best traditional Thai dishes made from scratch by an experienced Thai chef, then P Oy’s Place is an excellent choice. P. Oy’s Place is a family-run restaurant and the head chef is P Oy herself, who has been cooking delicious Thai food based on generations of family recipes for decades.
The restaurant is small but has a great ambience. P. Oy is welcoming, friendly, informative, and is always happy to give recommendations on which dishes will best suit your cravings and spice tolerance. The menu is displayed on a chalkboard that hangs across the main dining area, and while it is not as extensive as many other Thai menus, it makes up for it in quality and bucket loads of flavour.
Groups of all sizes can be accommodated but as the restaurant is incredibly popular booking ahead is recommended.
Food
The menu at P. Oy’s Place comprises a range of appetisers including the chefs famous chicken wings, for which the recipe is a closely guarded family secret – and for good reason! Main courses include classic Thai dishes such as pad Thai, pad krapow and stir fries with a range of meat, tofu and fish options. Some rarer dishes like pad ped and pad pik also have pride of place on the menu, and P Oy’s slow-cooked massaman curry is another stand out favourite.
Aside from the regular menu, P Oy’s Place has weekly specials nights, namely khao soi (a northern curry with noodles) on Tuesdays, and Indian curry night on Fridays. Reserving ahead is normally essential for these, as there are limited portions.
Drinks
P Oy’s Place is a small restaurant with limited fridge space so drinks are restricted to local beers and soft drinks. Normally P Oy is accommodating of requests to bring in your own alternatives, but its best practice to double-check with the staff first.
