June Juea Beach

A true hidden gem, this small patch of white sand is little known and infrequently visited, making it the perfect choice for those looking for a more personalised beach experience. June Juea Beach is one of the cleanest beaches on Koh Tao as it is kept in pristine condition by the owners of the beach bungalows that perch on the rocky hillside alongside it.

June Juea Beach beach is located at the south of the island but with a more western-facing angle than other nearby beaches like Chalok Bay and Freedom Beach. As such, it offers an unrivalled private viewing at sundown and has been dubbed ‘the sunset bay’ by some of the island’s locals.

Access

June Juea Beach is most easily reached on foot from Chalok Bay, and the walk takes around 20minutes. You can drive it if you are feeling adventurous but be advised it is a very steep trip over the mountain by scooter. So unless you are already a confident driver then it is not recommended, and you’d need at least a 125cc rental scooter to have enough power to make it to the top of the steepest parts with two passengers.

Fees

There is no fee to use June Juea Beach, although we do recommend purchasing drinks or food from the family-owned bar and café, as they are very welcoming and do an amazing job of keeping the beach so clean and tidy.

Services & Facilities

Snorkeling gear is available for rent at the small beach bar. The bar is a simple beach hut right on the sand just steps from the water’s edge, and you’ll find the café/restaurant in a separate building up a flight of concrete steps at the back of the beach.

Swimming and Snorkeling

With exceptionally good conditions all year round and many fish to see in the water, it’s another popular pick among Koh Tao locals for the title of Koh Tao’s best beach.

Recommended for… Off the Beaten Track

June Juea Beach is definitely one of Koh Tao’s more remote beaches. It is more difficult to find and seldom visited compared to the majority of other beaches on Koh Tao, making it perfect for those who want to get off the beaten track and get that real isolated tropical island vibe.
