Shalimar Indian Cuisine

Location: Shalimar is located on the main road in central Sairee, between the petrol station and The Beer Masons

Opening Hours: 5pm – 12midnight

Price range: 100 – 500THB

Shalimar is the only restaurant in Koh Tao to specialise specifically in Indian food and offers authentic North Indian cuisine at an affordable price. With a location right in the heart of bustling Sairee, you’d be forgiven for thinking that restaurants in this area would be noisy, but with Shalimar this is not the case. Set back from the main road in a spacious area with a giant Mai Yang tree as the centrepiece, the tables at Shalimar are spread around its roomy courtyard.

Take away and delivery orders are accommodated as well as eat-in, and all dishes are made from scratch with fresh produce combined with a range of imported Indian herbs and spices. Shalimar is Garhwali owned and managed, and all dishes are prepared by authentic Indian chefs.

Food

Shalimar prides itself on preparing all of its dishes in a traditional way that is typical of the regions of origin of the owner and both of the head chefs (Dehradun, Uttarakhand). The restaurant offers one of the widest varieties of main ingredients available on Koh Tao, allowing you to choose from vegetable, prawn, chicken, and lamb based dishes.

On the menu, you will find all manner of north Indian appetisers and various curry and tandoori mains. All of Shalimar’s tandoori dishes are prepared in a traditional roasted clay oven. Several varieties of pilau rice and naan breads are available to accompany your meal. Shalimar also offers some fantastic sets, allowing you to try more dishes and share platters of food between your table.

Shalimar has a standard drinks menu comprising soft drinks, local beers, house wines, and a selection of spirits. Happy hours run daily from 5 – 7pm and all evening on Saturdays.
