Leaving Koh Tao
To Koh Phangan
Daily ferries start at 06:00 last ferry is 15:00, there are no night ferries to Koh Phangan.
The trip with Lomprayah & Seatran is an hour, the budget option with Songserm will take an hour and a half.
All ferry companies arrive to the port town, Thong Sala where you will find bike taxis, Tuk Tuks, Taxis & Songthaews (taxi with two benches) to transfer you to your final destination.
To Koh Samui
Daily ferries starting at 06:00 last ferry is 15:00, there are no night ferries to Koh Samui.
The best two ferry companies are Lomprayah & Seatran and will get you there in approx. 2 hours, Songserm the cheaper option could take double the time.
Lomprayah & Seatran have minivan transfer options from the pier where you arrive to anywhere on the island for 150 baht, Songserm charge 100 baht for their transfer service.
For tours and information about Samui Island contact our friends at The Samui Explorer who will be happy to recommend things to do on Koh Samui, for great coffee check out Big Buddha Coffee Shop in Bophut.
To Surat Thanni Airport
Two popular options from our travel agency are the 06:00 Lomprayah ferry & bus or the 21:00 night ferry & bus.
With taking the 06:00 Lomprayah ferry the first flight you can comfortably make is around 13:00 (though in good conditions earlier flights have been caught).
If you take the 21:00 night ferry option you'll arrive at the airport no later than 07:30 next morning.
We are often asked which car ferry / night boat is running on certain nights to Surat Thanni?
The schedule changes often but one of the ferries the called Ko Jaroen is always on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays. So if a comfortable & safe ferry with bunk beds & A/C is what you need, you can plan to leave Koh Tao on those days. For info on ferries running on the other days email us on firstname.lastname@example.org
There are other ferry & bus options, for these please check our trip search engine.
To Chiang Mai
Air Asia operate one flight daily from Surat Thanni to Chiang Mai FD5421 dep. at 14:50, it's direct and normally at a very good price when compared with flying the more expensive Bangkok Airways from Koh Samui.
You can easily make the Air Asia flight if you take the 06:00 Lomprayah or 06:30 Seatran ferry & bus to the airport on the same day.
As I mentioned Bangkok Airways "boutique airline" can get you to Chiang Mai too, but it will be more expensive.
It's necessary first to get to Bangkok by bus or train. Then travel on to Chiang Mai from Bangkok by bus, train.
We can book train for you from Bangkok - Chiang Mai but we don't have a bus ticket available at the moment for the trip Bangkok - Chiang Mai.
Lomprayah run twice daily to Chumpon at 10:15 & 14:45
The Songserm "Express" just once a day at 14:30
We have very good car ferries with bunk beds & A/C to Chumpon, schedule as follows;
Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday is Ko Jaroen
Wednesday, Friday & Sunday is Porntaweesin
Monday, no car ferry
To Chumpon Train Station
At Island Travel we can arrange joint train & ferry tickets with Lomprayah which include bus transfer to the train station.
So just let us know your destination Hua Hin, Bangkok, Had Yai, Sungai Kolok etc. using the trip search engine and your joint ticket will include transfer too.
Please fill out and submit the booking request form so our staff can check availability and respond to you.
Ferry & VIP Coach
The most popular option is the 10:15 Lomprayah arriving at around 20:00
There's also a later Lomprayah 14:45 departure which arrives around midnight.
Songserm "Express" have a 14:30 departure which doesn't arrive until next day at 05:00 which does connect well with many morning flights from the two Bangkok airports.
Ferry & Train
Best way is with the afternoon Lomprayah departing at 14:45 , the joint ticket we sell includes transfer to the train station. You can choose any one of several night trains first one at 19:36, last one just after midnight.
They are all sleeper trains, you can choose 1st Class (private cabin with A/C), 2nd Class this has beds all along both sides of the carriage you can choose upper / lower or fan / AC.
We don't recommend taking the night train if you are flying next morning as they often arrive late to Bangkok, having said that they can sometimes arrive late at Chumpon Station as they've traveled up from Malaysia.
Ferry & Flight
Most popular choice has always been Bangkok Airways from Koh Samui, to find the connection with your chosen ferry from Koh Tao please use our trip search widget on the this page.
Island Travel are proud to be an appointed agent for Air Asia on Koh Tao, they operate from Surat Thanni Airport.
If you don't mind an early start, then the 06:00 Lomprayah service to Surat Thanni airport connects well with the 13:00 Air Asia flight to Bangkok FD3240 and is a bargain price when compared with Bangkok Airways.
NokAir fly twice daily to Bangkok from Chumpon but neither flight has a good enough connection from Koh Tao that we would recommend Nokair.
To The Andaman Side
Lomprayah & Seatran run daily to all destinations on the Andaman side starting at 06:00 & 06:30 respectively.
The Surat Thanni night ferry is a popular choice, especially for backpackers as one nights accommodation can be saved by sleeping on the night ferry.
For families and older couples who like their creature comforts be sure to check the schedule to ensure it's one of the newer style ferries on your preferred night of travel.
