Accommodation on the East Coast

If you truly want to get away from it all and get that tropical island feel without any of the noise or bustle of a more built-up area, then you need to step away from all three villages and head to the east coast of Koh Tao.

Unlike Koh Samui, Koh Tao does not have a road that goes all the way around the island. The main road only stretches down the western side, connecting Sairee Village to Chalok Baan Kao, via Mae Haad. So resorts on the east coast of Koh Tao are a bit more disconnected than most locations on the island.

The list of quieter bays includes Aow Leuk, Tanote Bay, and Hin Wong Bay, and a stay at any of these should provide a private, tranquil, and peaceful holiday environment. The east coast of Koh Tao is synonymous with pretty resorts, colourful coral reefs, and a whole heap of beaches all to yourself!

Restaurants & Bars on the East Coast of Koh Tao

Most restaurants and bars at the beaches on the East Coast are in-house options at resorts. Others are simple, rustic, family-run set-ups, normally operated by friends or extended family members of the main resort facilities.

Accommodation on the East coast of Koh Tao

Over the years we’ve spent much time exploring the island and have developed a great knowledge of all the hidden-away bays and resorts. So our top picks for accommodation on the east coast of Koh Tao are:

Chabalay Resort

Based in Aow Leuk Bay, the rooms at Chabalay offer guests the opportunity to wake up to the most spectacular sea views. Clinging to the hillside directly above the bay. The Chabalay bungalows are traditionally built and all have a private terrace. Large windows allow sea and star gazing from the comfort of your bed.

Montalay Beach Resort

Montalay has everything you need for a tropical beach holiday retreat.  The property provides so many services and facilities that the need to leave the resort during your stay is completely negated. Choose from massage and spa services, swimming, and snorkeling. Taking a scuba course with the in-house dive school. Indulge in sumptuous food and drinks at the on-site restaurant. Enjoy many tasty Thai, western, and fusion dishes.

Tanote Villa Resort

Nestled within a picturesque coconut grove overlooking Tanote Bay, Tanote Villa Resort exudes a relaxed ambiance. The golden sands of the bay are just a short walk down the hill. The facilities at the resort more than account for its remote location. Two large swimming pools complete with Jacuzzi chairs. A separate kids pool, in-house massage, and spa services. And even a pool table for rainy days.
