Accommodation in Mae Haad

Accommodation in Mae Haad is a practical option as this is Koh Tao’s main port town and the point where all ferries arrive and depart for destinations on the mainland and the neighbouring islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Samui. So if you don’t want to rent a scooter on Koh Tao, Mae Haad is a good base.

The main town consists of an ‘up road’ and a ‘down road’, which form a one-way traffic system for cars and motorbikes. Both of these streets are only around 100 metres long and are lined on either side by café’s, restaurants, and multiple clothing and souvenirs stores where you can do all of your holiday shopping

It is an option to walk to Sairee from your accommodation in Mae Haad without having to use the main road, as the walking street known as the ‘Yellow Brick Road’ connects both villages on a much more scenic route without having to deal with too much traffic.

For a port town with so much boat traffic, you may be surprised to learn that Mae Haad is still home to a stretch of beautiful beach. Our favourite area is right at the southern corner of Mae Haad Bay, where you’ll find one of Koh Tao’s best-kept secrets – a small wreck that you can access by snorkeling from the shore.

Accommodation in Mae Haad

As our Island Travel office was located in Mae Haad for many years before we moved to Sairee, we are very familiar with all of the options for accommodation. Our top recommendations for your stay are:

Sensi Paradise

Tucked right into the southern corner of Mae Haad Bay, Sensi Paradise offers high-quality accommodation and service coupled with an envious beachfront location. In addition to sun loungers on the main beach and use of a large swimming pool, guests also have access to a couple of smaller, more private beaches that stretch around the coastline on which the resort is built.

Ananda Villas

Ananda Villas are a fantastic option for mid-range accommodation in Mae Haad. Clean, tastefully decorated, and situated right next to the beach, Ananda is a small, family-run resort offering a variety of room options to suit all budgets. Choose from traditional fan or air-conditioned bungalows in the garden area or superior rooms and sea view rooms in the apartment-style complex by the beach.

Montra Resort

Located on the northern side of the main town, Montra Resort also offers beachfront accommodation in Mae Haad. It is home to the largest infinity pool on the island and has its own cordoned-off area for safe swimming and snorkeling on the beach, making it popular for families with children. The rooms are arranged in an extended u-shape surrounding the pool, meaning both pool and sea views can be enjoyed from the balcony.

Koh Tao Central Hostel

Located less than 100 metres from the beach and just a couple of minutes’ walk from the ferry arrival and departure piers, Koh Tao Central Hostel certainly lives up to its name with its convenient location. All dorm rooms are air-conditioned and additional facilities include free Wi-Fi, a common area with PS3 and games, and a separate outdoor chill-out deck with cushions.
