Lung Pae is one of the best restaurants on the island, but its off the beaten track location means it is favoured mainly my Koh Tao residents, and when not specifically recommended it is easily missed by most tourists. Owned and run by a friendly and welcoming local Thai family, Lug Pae sits on a mountainside overlooking the local government offices, police station, and Chalok Bay. If you go in the daytime or for sunset, you’ll be able to make out many Koh Tao landmarks from the open-air balcony, including Deisha View and John Suwan viewpoints.
Lung Pae has an incredible ambience, is tastefully decorated, and surrounded by nature. Its peaceful and tranquil setting makes it the perfect place to enjoy a tasty meal, and the restaurant is happy to take bookings for groups of all sizes.
The menu at Lung Pae accommodates all preferences, whether western of Thai. However, it is most famous for its steak, and for good reason – there are not many places on the island that serve a better one! You can choose from tenderloin, fillet, rib eye or prime New Zealand cuts, and all are served with salad and a potato side.
The Lung Pae menu also includes some yummy appetisers, an array of Thai food including the usual noodle and fried dishes, and fish dishes such as whole steamed snapper. Some western favourites like chicken and chips, pasta dishes, and various salads are also available.
The bar at Lung Pae is well stocked with local beers and spirits, and there is also a good selection of cocktails. It’s one of the better restaurants when it comes to ordering a well-made mojito, which is on the 100THB happy hour list, along with Caipirinhas and Caprioskas.
